After graduating he embarked on a career in the Insurance industry, rising to become Insurance Manager of a large private company based in London. In 1997 the company he worked for was taken over by a large US organisation, Cendant, and Michael became a casualty of the reorganisation.
Realising that he was far too young to retire – nor did the finances allow – he reinvented himself as a tour guide of the D-Day Landing Beaches of Normandy.
The next year saw the release of the movie, “Saving Private Ryan”, and thereafter his business exploded in the best possible sense. There was a strong demand for the American market who, finding themselves in London either on vacation or not, who wished to visit the historic D-Day Landing Beaches of Normandy.
Unfortunately communications between the UK and Normandy are long winded, – a timetable of trains, and ferries often taking a day to get there and a day to get back which is not ideal in a vacation lasting perhaps seven days. There is no convenient daily commercial flight from the UK to Normandy. Demand for a bespoke private service was evident leading to the creation of Perception Travel Co. Ltd. whose aim is to take clients from London to discover the prime sites of the D-Day Landing Beaches on a tour lasting 7 hours on the ground in Normandy.
